In 2017 we had the great vision to create an open innovation platform where all stakeholders of the health industry meet and work together with #startups and #entrepreneurs to foster #innovation in #healthcare. With the support of our launching partner Uniqa Private Trust, in particular the team of Uniqa VenturesAndreas NemethMichaela RothleitnerGeorg Ioannidis and Nikolaus WrabetzLISAvienna and all our academic partners we kicked off Health Hub Vienna (#Healthhubvienna, #HHV). We launched an #AccelerationProgram for international #HealthStartups in spring 2018.

In collaboration with Pioneers we approached startups across Europe who develop solutions to problems of healthcare professionals and/or patients. For Batch#1 a high level Jury, Andreas Brandstetter/CEO of Uniqa, Oliver CsendesFredrik DebongRoland FalbMichaela FritzGottfried HimmlerRegina HoditsSiegfried MerynMichael PetritzRobin RumlerMichael Schuster selected 10 startups to join the healthcare community in #Vienna, one of the leading lifesciences clusters in Europe. B-wom (ES), contextflow (AT), Goclinic (NL), healthbank (CH), Imagebiopsy Lab (AT), Medicus.AI (AT), mhealth Pioneers (DE), Reflex Physio (RO), SzeleSTIM (AT) and ThinkSono (UK) were offered an intense program to work on their regulatory, business, scaling and funding strategies. They were supported by a variety of mentors from the partners as well as experienced #entrepreneurs, #HealthProfessionals, experts in #InsureTech, #MedTech, #e-Health, #m-Health, #TrendsInHealth, #HealthServices, #HospitalOperator, #HealthMarketIntelligence, #Biotech, #Pharma, etc.

As we went, more partners have joined to share our vision: Boehringer Ingelheim and Pfizerbring in the point of view of the pharmaceutical industry, facing both challenges and opportunities e.g. in personalized medicine or the convergence of therapy development and #ArtificialIntelligence or other ICT-based solutions. With Dr. Christian Hoenig/Wolf Theiss), an active #BusinessAngel supports us as an investment partner with legal expertise. KPMG and European Super Angels Club (ESAC) helped with the funding sprint Workshop and ThinkSono won a slot in ESACs roadshow for further fundraising. Together with MEDXelerator, an incubator focusing on medical device and digital health, we build a bridge for #health-startups between Europe and Israel. The European Institute for Medical and Scientific Education joined as an expert in training, but could also serves as a communication chanel to health professionals. Two partners have become extremely helpful to increase visibility: Dejan Jovicevic and his team from Der Brutkasten and Elias Resinger from Regionalmedien Austria. Last but not least, the group of mentors grows at a pace we cannot even keep up with communicating on our website.

Meanwhile, several collaborative projects were initiated e.g. to help startups to test their solutions. Investments or partnerships were closed (e.g. Apex Ventures and IST Cubeinvested into #contextflow, #MedicusAI signed a partnership with Roche). Other investors started negotiations with one or more of the startups (we will keep you posted on the results). Several prizes were awarded, eg. SzeleStim won the Pioneers Festival 2018 and used the trip to Silicon Valley for further developing their Business, but also the TechsauceGlobal Summit and more. ThinkSono won the Health Pioneers 2018).

The community has grown and grown together. To meet us all, join the Meetup Healthtech on 22th of October at weXelerate in Vienna, including the newly selected startups that were selected to join us in our next batch.
